Editing Skin Components in RH2019 Update 2

I have not be able to find where I can change the Header contents. I can change the Logo using the Skin Component "Header" Logo field, but where can I change -for example - "Employee Care 3" to: "my company's name", "Welcome to our Help Center" to: "Welcome to Company Name's Help Center", and "What can we help you with today" to "What would you like to do today?"

I swear I saw some 'behind the scenes' editing of (Properties? layouts? Customization?) beyond the standard Skin Components somewhere, but can't find it in the forums or RoboHelp's Help. Am I just not looking at the right Skin Component?

 

I edited projectsettings.js, but that gets overwritten every time I generate my project.

 

Following the sample project, I assume "Employee Care 3" is the project's title, but changing the "Project Title" in my project's Project Settings does not change the header.

 

This is a merged project if that makes any difference.

HTML5 Projects Publishing to Wrong RoboHelp Server Contexts Folder

Our RoboHelp Server Configuration Manager only list one context, the default /roboHelp to which our projects - both WebHelp Pro & Responsive HTML5 - have published to in the past. Recently we've noticed that our projects are publishing into a "rh" context. We did not create this context, not knowingly anyway. Additionaly, this 'rh' context does not appear as an option in the context drop-down list. We only see /robohelp.

As far as I can tell, this rh context and publishing behavior started happening after we installed the Update 1 patch for RH Server 10. We are running RH Server 10.0.1.237 with Tomcat 8.5. And were using RH 2017.

 

Any ideas on how to delete the 'rh' context sense we can't select it in the Configuration Mngr? At this point the only thing I can think of is to reinstall the RH server software.

Upgrade RH2017 Project in RH2019

My goodness, where is the documentation on how to navigate and proceed with a RH2017 project upgrade in RH2019? Opening RH2019 for the first throws one into a completely new user interface, with no guidance on how to navigate, let alone work with a converted pre-RH2019 project.

 

I just upgraded to RH2019 (been using RH for several years now - since RH2015) and tried to perform an upgrade of a RH2017 project. The "upgrade" seemed to complete but then when I attempt to generate my Responsive HTML5 output I see an immediate failure related to cyclic dependencies in the index cross references (?). From the log:

...

Starting responsive output generation.

Processing metadata...

Index cross references have cyclic dependencies.

Output Generation Failed.

 

The same project has been working fine in RH2017. So what's going on here? Absolutely no information in the log about which index entries are problematic or how to go about fixing this. And why is this an issue in RH2019 and not RH2017? Yeesh...

 

Anyone have any ideas/pointers?

RH2017/Responsive HTML5 - What's wrong w/ my screen layouts?

Hello,

 

I am using RH2017/Responsive HTML5/Indigo screen layout. I am using Conditional Text to generate 2 separate Help systems (for 2 different websites w/ many similar features). I'd like to give each Help system its own color styling, so I thought I could do this by creating 2 different Indigo screen layouts w/ diff colors defined.

 

However - when I created the 2nd Responsive Screen Layout for Indigo, I noticed the following things:

  • "Home (Custom icons)" is MISSING from the list of Layout Properties. This is ESSENTIAL for me to use.
  • The Print (topic) icon is appears in the PREVIEW, but DOES NOT appear in my original Indigo layout.
    I have already added to a discussion re: Adding a Print Button into this Screen Layout.

Can someone help me out?

RH2017 - Can we sort topics in a ToC alphabetically?

i have a MS HTML help output and a printed documentation. Each have their respective ToCs.

In  the ToC I can manually move the topics up and down. I have many topics so wanted to know if we can sort them by any means?

If nothing then manual is the only option.

RH2019 Application crash after Word Import

First Word import into RH2019 (same import works fine in RH2017). Kept all the defaults during import and it seemed to complete without error. However, after trying to view the resulting content and/or the index (which surprisingly is empty??) I get the following error in the lower right corner of RH2019:

Indeed, after restarting, opening the previously, newly created project and attempting to browse the results of the import similarly fails and results in the above application error again.

 

So, I guess RH2019 can't import the same Word document that RH2017 had no trouble with . And now the project seems broken enough to crash RH2019.

 

This, after RH2019 has already seen two updates, does not give me any confidence in this new release (yikes). Unfortunately, I've already paid for the upgrade... Disappointing to say the least.

API to retrieve data from software for Map IDs in RoboHelp?

I may be posing the question wrong, but I am writing for a software development company.

 

REQUIREMENT:

When users are on a particular screen, they press F1 and the appropriate help topic displays. The files are created RoboHelp 2017, output as a CHUM file, which is included in the software files.

 

ISSUE:

However, I have a need to know the IDs of the screen, boxes, windows, pages, etc. so that I can add new help files for new screens or remove help files for screens that no longer exist or have a name change.

 

  • In my previous experience, I've been doing this manually where I send a .h file with the map files or I receive the screen names from the developers.
  • I am now finding that the last person in this position used a type of API to query the software and return the necessary information and perform the mapping - and did not need to get the information from the developers for manual entry.

 

QUESTION: Does anyone know know of such an API - preferably an industry standard solution that is safe and solid - like Microsoft and not a Billy Bud in the Basement beta/opensource type product. And can you provide a basic explanation of how it works to mine for screen name data in software.

What is the standard review process you follow?

We have HTML 5 output. We are using RH-17

 

The process we follow:

 

We author in RH and then generate PDF and send for review. We incorporate changes in the RH and again generate PDF for review and validation.

 

RoboHelp Server is expensive for us.

 

We want to get rid of this.

Any option available?

Robohelp Screen Capture File Name Issues

Hi,

 

RoboHelp Screen capture functionality earlier was taking file name automatically as " CapturedImg1..2...3". But, now I have to manually enter the file name. Please let me know what settings needs to be done and from where I can do this settings so that screen capture automatically takes the file name.

Can't find hyperlink controls

I've created a style sheet and applied the hyperlink attributes to it, but I would like to control the color of a hyperlink when you drag a topic onto text. I'd rather have that color be correct automatically, rather than having to apply the Hyperlink style every time I create a link. Where do I go to do this? I'm using HTML5 in Robohelp 2017.

Creating a Skin

I've just downloaded RoboHelp 2019 after using RoboHelp 11. I am a novice, for sure, but needing and willing to learn!

I need to create a skin with a graphic that I've created. How do I do that? Where can I go to learn how to create a skin that I can import into RoboHelp 2019?

Do I need helpmap.ocx and hhactivex.dll with HTML5 output?

Our devs are asking if they can delete helpmap.ocx and HHActiveX.dll now that we're no longer using chm helps (We've switched to an HTML5 output). We've been installing those files with our product.

 

Do we need these files with HTML5 output, or can we delete them from our install software?

Favorites in Charcoal Gray Layout

I found an article from early 2017 that said Adobe might be offering the Favorites button on the Charcoal Gray layout. Right now you can only get it in the Indigo layout, which doesn't work for what I'm doing. Is there any information about this? Is it in development? Is there an ETA?

Responsive HTML5 More Searchable (RoboHelp 2017)

I have a project has about 50 books that hosts topics on software, applications, etc. Some books have sub categories in the title. For example: Microsoft Outlook 2016 | Email | Email Basics.

 

How can I make the Responsive HTML5 easier to search? The TOC and Index is frustrating for some of the users. Appreciate any suggestions.

Indigo Layout

I'm testing the Indigo layout to see if we can use it. I really want the Favorites feature, and this is apparently the only layout that offers it. However, I don't understand this layout. If you view a topic in Mobile view, you can't go to the Table of Contents, Index or Glossary from that topic. You can't filter topics. You can only use Search and add the topic to your Favorites. There are no other icons, unless you switch to tablet view. This can't possibly be right, so I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong.

 

I've gone over the layout multiple times, and can't seem to locate where I would go to display these icons in mobile view. Could someone please point me in the right direction?

Function Buttons - can they be translated?

This might be a deal breaker for the Indigo layout. The function buttons are in English, and there doesn't appear to be any way to replace the English text with translated text, or replace the function buttons with icons. Am I missing something? Is there any way to address this, or do I need to find another layout?

I have created a CHM file in RoboHelp 2015, V 12.0.2.384, in Win7 and all MP4 files hyperlinked through a text entry on HTML pages, open and play in either Windows Media Center or Player. One of my customers just converted their laptop to Win 10 and now he cannot get the MP4 files to play in either of the players. Anybody else have experience with this? A workaround? Some tips or tricks that I may not be aware of?

Looking for an Easy-to-Use Code Syntax Highlighter

Hello!!

 

I've scanned what exist in the RH forums re: Code Syntax Highlighters, but everything is kinda OLD. Wondering if anyone knows of any successful ways that I can use Code Syntax Highlighting in my topics. I have quite a few code samples (from a few lines long to 40-50 lines long) and it would be great to have a way to do the following:

  • Display the code w/ preserved correct color coding.
  • Have proper left/right scrolling for extra long lines in the code.
  • Show/hide line numbering from the code example (sometimes, I need it to reference and sometimes, I don't)
  • Highlight certain lines of code that I am referencing in the text to call out attention.
  • Allow users to copy the code to the Clipboard to paste it into whatever API/app they are using for testing.

 

I explored the more recent Syntax Highlighting solution offered by Alex Gorbatchev on GitHub, but I cannot find step-by-step instructions that tell me exactly what to do, which files I need, where to store them, how to use them w/ RoboHelp.

 

I noticed references to the older Syntax Highlighting solution and to Peter Grainge's site in the older forums...just curious if this has been figured out to any better now, as even the instructions in the past solutions seem convoluted to me also.

 

In other words, I am completely LOST. Is this something that only Programmers understand how to do? Sorry to bring up an old subject, but it has not been answered to my satisfaction/understanding. Plus, maybe there is something NEW out there...I've been looking, but without much luck.
