Show All Dropdowns Text Button - Need Help!

I'm using RoboHelp 2017 and the HTML5 output Azure Blue.

In RoboHelp 11 and earlier, we used a skin with a Show and Hide button in the toolbar. This along with some JavaScript expanded or closed all dropdowns on a given topic. Again, the buttons were in a toolbar and not part of the actual topic.

Now, in the HTML5 output, I am trying to do the same thing but with no luck. I can create a show all button using Peter Grainge's "twisty2b.js" but only when I put the button inside the topic. When I place the button in the "functionholder" area (just above the topic), the button does not work.

I have tried various Grainge and van Weelden scripts, put the scripts in various places and made sure the paths were correct, used all sorts of options for the button including simple onClick="show" and other things.

Can anyone please help?

We performed Fortify scan on our code base with updated webhelp generated from Robohelp 2017. We are seeing the below vulnerabilities in the listed files from Webhelp.

1. Cross site scripting: DOM [whsch_home.htm, whskin_tw.htm, whstart.js, whtbar.js, whtopic.js ]

2. Open Redirect [whsch_home.htm, whtbar.js].

Please do update us if there is a fix for it.

MP4 video in Captivate 9 project doesn't play in RH2015 responsive HTML5 ouput

Hello,

I imported a Captivate 9 project that includes an MP4 video (created using Camtasia) into my help project in Robohelp 2015 and generated a responsive HTML5 output. The Captivate project plays in the output, but the video does not appear and does not play. The video plays just fine when I publish and play the Captivate project locally. At first, I just created the Captivate project in a folder on my desktop and imported it into my Robohelp project, and when that didn't work, I tried the following:

  1. In my Robohelp project, (using Windows Explorer), I put a copy of the MP4 in the following folder:
    1. Implementation and quick start guides
  2. I created a responsive project in Captivate with, among other content, the aforementioned MP4 video, inserted into one of the slides. (Video > Insert >browsed to the Robohelp folder where the video resides).
  3. From Robohelp, I imported the Captivate project into the same folder in which the MP4 resides. (see screen shot below)
  4. When I generate responsive HTML5 output, the Captivate project works just fine in the output, except the video doesn’t show & doesn’t play.

Any help you can give is appreciated!

Linking to topics not in the current dynamic filter

Hi all,

We're redesigning our Web Help (long overdue) and we'd like to provide dynamic filtering, because this help is vast and covers a wide variety of topics.

The filtering works great with one possible show-stopper: if you set a filter, and a link in a topic is to another topic that falls outside the filter, the link takes you to a blank page.

I assume the blank page is configurable, but we'd like to figure out how to let them jump to content in the same project that might be related to what they're reading but doesn't quite fall into the selected filter.

For example, a topic could be part of the Getting Started filter, Daily Operations filter, and Administration filter. The links in there could take them quickly to content that's not in the selected filter.  Does that make sense?

The only thing I can think to do is replace all the relative paths in each project with absolute URLs, but that would be a nightmare.

Can anyone think of a workaround?

Thanks!

How to share conditional build expressions across projects

$

Hi,

I've managed to get dynamic filters to work as expected on one of my test projects. To get things to work though, I had to create conditional build expressions and use those in dynamic content filter dialog. This was because even though using a standard conditional build tag worked, only the CBEs were being selected automatically in the final merged project. Maybe thats  bug, but it's working now anyway.

So, is there a way to share my CBEs between projects. We're a team with access to TFS as source control if that helps. The CBEs are relatively simple, but doing it across 25 or 30 projects per release seems tedious and even more worrying, error prone.

Can I easily share these's CBEs among projects? I'm not afraid of writing a little script to insert some XML into a specific project file if that is an option. Any help, much appreciated.

UPDATE:

I found where the tags and expressions are stored (rhbuildtag.apj), and I was able to copy that file to another project with no problem. However, I still had to recreate the settings in the Dynamic Content Filter dialog. Most of our output will be merged into one project and even if it isn't merged, will not need to look any different, so I can just copy the whole output from project to project?

How to open Responsive HTML5 on Android and iOS?

Hello all,

How do you open Responsive HTML5 output on Android and iOS? I'm able to generate the output and open it in an Internet browser on a PC, but I can't find the procedure to open it on a mobile device.

So far I copied the generated Responsive_HTML5 folder to a mobile device, and tried to open the index.htm file but this results in a blank help.

Does anyone know how to solve this?

HTML Responsive - customising the landing page

$

Hi All,

Is there a way (adding a DIV maybe?) to add some additional information on a frameless HTML responsive layout like Indigo. What I'd like is to add some standard text and maybe embed a video for people when they hit the landing page, instead of having them have to click through to something. I've attached a graphic to show you what I'm thinking.

It's a merged project, so the links to the sub-projects are displayed (e.g. eStart, Portals). Ideally I'd keep those intact, but I'd consider replacing those if I could configure the master project to display a topic with the information I wanted in their place.

You can look at the live project here:

I was thinking that maybe I could get the content of the Welcome page to display on the main landing page, but no such luck. Any help, appreciated.

Retrieve multiple context-sensitive topics from responsive HTML

Hello,

I'm a first time poster and am currently evaluating RoboHelp 2017 for my company. I am completely new to context-sensitive help and this is my first experience with it, but as the only Technical Writer in our company, I am responsible for creating a concept and choosing the right tool for our needs.

We are planning on implementing a context-sensitive help for our newest web application, which should suggest multiple helpful topics to the user of our web application directly within our UI (with links to the fully responsive HTML5 output "Help Center" from RoboHelp).

It would be similar to what Facebook is doing with their context-sensitive help (where, depending on where on Facebook you are, you get different suggested topics directly in the Facebook UI).

Could this somehow be accomplished with the RoboHelp API? Or is it really only possible to call one specific help topic for each context? This would be a huge programming overhead and not really an option for us.

What additional development effort would be needed to build on top of the RoboHelp API to retrieve multiple topics for each context? (e.g. to display the topic titles + links to the respective topic in the Help output)?

Suggestions are highly appreciated.

TOC Sync not working when only one file in FrameMaker Book

$

I am getting a strange result when I have only one file (two including the TOC file) in a FM book that I am publishing to Responsive HTML5.  I can explain more about why I am putting all "chapters" into one FM file if relevant, but trying to keep explanation simple.

When I publish the book with one FM file containing all chapters, the TOC sync in the output does not work.  If I split the chapters into multiple files, even just two (three in all including the FM TOC), then the TOC sync works fine in the output.  I have tried this with the Azure, Indigo and Charcoal_Grey layouts with the same results, fine if two FM files, not working if only one.  I am using FM 2017 as part of the TCS 2017.

Is there a reason why this is happening?  I can't think why TOC syncing should not work even if there is just one FM content file.  The resulting output has 4 levels of content in the TOC, and if I click on the TOC, then the correct topic opens in the content area, but if I click on the browse next or back keys, the TOC does not stay in sync.  In the Indigo layout, there is an additional undersirable artifact in that the breadcrumbs also do not get updated when clicking the browse buttons, but do only if I click on something in the TOC.

Any help will be greatly apprecitated.

How can I customize the logo.png file?

$

I would like to substitute our company logo for the default logo.png file in the Charcoal_Gray HTML5 layout. One of the RH experts sent me these instructions and code:

"The logo is defined in the SCSS, but you can use your own CSS to get around the limitation. It's a little trial and error to position it the way you want. The attached CSS contains the correct selectors that you can use to manipulate. Set the width and the height of the logo div and the image will scale automatically."

/** Desktop **/

body.media-desktop div.header div.logo {

}

body.media-desktop div.header div.title {

    /* Title will automatically be pushed when the logo is made larger/smaller */

}

/** Tablet **/

body.media-landscape div.header div.logo {

}

body.media-landscape div.header div.title {

    /* Set left property to align to logo image */

}

/** Phone **/

body.media-mobile div.header div.logo {

}

body.media-mobile div.header div.title {

    /* Set left property to align to logo image */

}

I am only using the code for Desktop. I was able to replace the default logo.png with our company logo using the layout editor within RoboHelp. I need to know how to specify the image size so that the entire image displays and the title moves to the right. I don't have expertise with .css, so can someone tell me what I need to do to get my company logo to fit? Here's the way the company logo looks now (identified by the red square around it). Following the screen shot is the code I tried in my .css to alter the image size. It didn't do anything. Can someone tell me what the code should look like? I can try to fool around with the dimensions, but first I need to know what code to include.

/** Desktop **/

body.media-desktop div.header div.logo {

height: 50px;

width: 158px;

}

body.media-desktop div.header div.title {

    /* Title will automatically be pushed when the logo is made

larger/smaller */

}

FM converting to RH results in deleting part of variable in rh project

$

Hi all,

While converting FM to RH project the variables are incorrectly processed. And doesn't show corretly in WebHelp output.

The problem is that I have signs in variables definition like this "** \<some text> more text" that variable displays correctly in FrameMaker, but after creating a project in RH it displays as "** \ more text" in user defined variables in RH.

Is there a way to make it work correctly without much effort?
Or I need sth to export the variables from framemaker correctly and convert them into a rhvariable.apj file and replace it in RH folder structure?
if so is there a easy way to do it or workaround?

Please help,

I got a giant book in FM with variables named as mention and I don't know how to handle it atm.

Hello,

Online help is rendering different font sizes when viewed in IE/Chrome.

  • On the left you see Chrome and the fonts look fine.
  • On the right you will notice the first set of  bullets shows a larger font size.

Search not displaying results in IE11 if built from RH2017

$

My team are having a problem that some RH2015 projects that behaved perfectly in IE11 are now causing a problem if rebuilt in RH2017. The search panel in the WebHelp no longer displays results or any evidence of performing a search. The search works when viewed in Chrome and will also work in IE11 if you press F12 and select compatibility mode 10. Building out to HTML5 format, as a test, also results in a working help in IE11. So, the issue seems to be specifically with the WebHelp format.

The problem seemed similar to a search problem affecting RH11 that was covered on this forum and required a patch to the whutils.js and whver.js files. Indeed, we quickly found that we can resolve the problem by taking the whutils.js produced by RH2015 and dropping it into the RH2017 WebHelp output folder to overwrite the generated file. The help then appears to behave perfectly on IE11 (and other browsers).

A comparison of the whutils.js files from both RoboHelp versions shows that they are not identical and that additional code has been added in 2017. The help files received minimal editing before being rebuilt as WebHelp and no 2017-specific features were added, so this may be why we are getting away with using the 2015 file. However, as I don't know what the new code is doing, I'm uncomfortable about using the RH2015 file as a fix.

Can anyone on the forum or from the Adobe team tell me if this problem is already known or if there is a patch for the file: we did search on the forum and bug report site but saw nothing obvious? The machine on which we performed the build was new and had a clean install of Technical Communications Suite 2017, and we have also confirmed it is fully up-to-date with software updates.

Am I right in assuming that, when building WebHelp, RoboHelp fetches the whutils.js file from <RHnstallFolder>\RoboHTML\WebHelp5Ext\template_stock and that any permanent patch would need to be applied in that folder?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer,

Charles Addison

Context Help broken in Robohelp 2017?

$

We recently upgraded from Robohelp 2015 to Robohelp 2017. We have a large help project that has over 1000 topics and our software applications calls help topics by generating a URL with the Responsive HTML5 Help path and the appropriate Map ID for the topic. The application also adds arguments to the URL to specify the appropriate content filters. All of this was working fine in Robohelp 2015 (except for the defect that Multi-Level lists don't number correctly).

After upgrading to Robohelp 2017, calls to open topics do not work the way they should. The framed layout should open and display the correct topic with the correct filters, but instead it only opens the (correct) topic but without the framed layout and without any filtering. To confirm that this is a problem, I copied the exact same project file set to two computers, one with Robohelp 2015 and one with Robohelp 2017. I used the same settings to generate the Responsive HTML5 output on each and then I then used the same URL to call a topic. Here are the results:

Robohelp 2015:

2015 output.PNG

Robohelp 2017

2017 output.PNG

Has anyone else encountered this? Is there a workaround? This is a critical issue for us and we can't wait for Adobe to put it into their backlog and not address it as they typically do. We might have to cancel our Tech Com Suite subscription and go back to Robohelp 2015.

Indigo screen layout - moving slideout and TOC from the right to the left

Hi Everyone,

I'm back with another question. In the Indigo screen layout, is there a way to force the slidout on the homepage (which contains the filters and index entires etc) to slideout from the left? Similarly, is there a way to move the TOC from the right to the left once inside a topic? I couldn't find it within the RoboHelp UI, but presumably it is possible to do by editing the HTML/CSS/JavaScript. I've spent a couple of hours this morning altering classes directly, but without luck. Any help could be much appreciated.

Reducing browser window size hides Search Field, Print and Go to Top Icons

Hi there,

Is there a way to always show the Print and Go to Top icons no matter how the customer has sized their browser help window? Seems that if I stretch the window to the right a bit I can see both icons but at a certain point, when resizing to the left, the two icons disappear, along with the Search field in the header. Just wondering if this can be adjusted.

Currently using RoboHelp 2015, version 12.0.3.428. Creating a Responsive HTML5 help system using the Azure Blue screen layout.

Thanks in advance!
